X c nb total month 2000

  • Northbound cargo crossings continue on an upward trend since the Great Recession ended, when U.S. industrial production and, hence, maquiladora activities rebounded.
  • In 2018, there are 67,656 total monthly average cargo crossings (2,602 daily) to the City of El Paso.

X c nb month 2000

  • Cargo crossings shifted temporarily due to Mexican Aduana construction at Ysleta-Zaragoza Bridge (Ysleta).
  • Ysleta started capturing more traffic than Bridge of the Americas (BOTA) after the Great Recession; the difference between them has been more substantial after the Aduana construction with Ysleta capturing 67% of the total during 2018.
    • One reason for this difference is that export manufacturing centers have expanded east in Ciudad Juarez.

X c sb month 2000

  • BOTA southbound crossings do not represent actual counts, rather, an estimate that assumes that total northbound and total southbound crossing volumes are equal.
  • Southbound cargo crossings through Ysleta have an upward trend since the Great Recession.
  • In February 2016, after the Ysleta construction, Mexican Aduana started allowing cargo empties which is one reason for the substantial increase in Ysleta traffic post-construction.
  • Monthly average cargo crossings through Ysleta in 2018 are 43,963 (1,691 daily).
